Honeywell happens to be an air purifier manufacturer who I have continually experienced very good results from. I’ve been looking forward to testing their new HEPA air purifier.

The Main Factors are Allergies, Dust and Noise
In my tests I like to look at three main factors – allergies, dust and the noise when it is running at full speed – this is an often overlooked thing.
Regarding allergies, well some relatives come to visit me (and my two cats) on a frequent basis. One of them is allergic to the cats, and uses his asthma inhaler many times per day. So this makes a perfect test for the Honeywell unit, and after turning it on, he didn’t use his inhaler for the rest of the visit! Test one passed with flying colors.
With dust, this is a very straightforward test. Usually with a sunbeam streaming into my kitchen window you can see the uncountable dust motes, dancing in the air. Once I turned the Honeywell 50250 on I noticed that the individual dust motes could now be counted easily and after a while they pretty much cleared altogether.
Yes, air purifiers can be noisy, however, if you aren’t home during the day, why not run them on high? Then turn them down (or off) when you are in the room. I find the benefit greatly outweighs the noise.
Very Efficient
As regards efficiency, my basement rec room is about 16′x30′ with an 8′ ceiling so we are am looking at 480 sq feet. I think the purifier is rated for 340 square feet. I live in the southwest where it is dusty all the time, plus there is the 16 year old cat. After two weeks of using the purifier I’m extremely impressed with its performance. It filters the room fast and leaves you with a really clean smelling room. With the purifier sitting on carpet the amount of vibration that you see is extremely small.
This air purifier is really cheap to operate when comparing to the more expensive makes and models – and especially considering you never have to change the HEPA filter.
